The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has raided the home of Kiambu Governor Paul Njoroge Kimani, alias Wamatangi, and eight other county officials.
EACC said it executed search warrants at the residences and offices of the nine individuals as part of an ongoing investigation.
However, in a statement on X shortly after the EACC operation, Governor Wamatangi called on Kiambu residents to remain peaceful.
The governor said he was at the EACC Headquarters and will address the media shortly.
“To the great people of Kiambu County, I urge you to remain calm and peaceful. We shall overcome. We will never give in to intimidation!!! I will address the media shortly at the EACC Headquarters, Integrity House, Nairobi,” Wamatangi said.

After the raid, protests erupted at the residence of the Kiambu governor.
The protesters who were seen carrying leaves sang and danced outside the residence of Wamatangi, calling for his release.
The Commission said the operation forms part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial and procurement malpractices within the County Government of Kiambu.
This focuses on allegations of conflict of interest, procurement irregularities, and abuse of office against the senior officials in the awarding of a contract for the Supply, Delivery, Installation, Testing, Training, Commissioning, and Support Services of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System.
The contract in question was valued at Sh230 million and was awarded during the 2022/2023 financial year.
EACC said the operation has resulted in the recovery of critical evidentiary material to support ongoing investigations.
“This includes the seizure of Sh12 million and USD 13,000 in cash from the residence of Governor Wamatangi,” the statement from EACC read.
“Upon conclusion of the investigation, the findings will guide the appropriate course of action which may include the prosecution of any individuals found culpable, the forfeiture of unexplained assets, and the confiscation of proceeds linked to corruption.”
