The National Police Service has assured all Kenyans and visitors of their security.  This, follows a letter by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on the alleged failure by the police to provide him with security.

Gachagua, on Tuesday, sensationally claimed that his life was in danger.

In a letter to the Inspector General of Police and copied to President William Ruto, Gachagua listed multiple incidents that he claimed were a threat to his life.

However, in a statement, police asked the former DP to liaise with police officers at all levels should he require additional security measures.

“The attention of the National Police Service (NPS) has been drawn to a letter supposedly written by the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua regarding alleged failure by the police to provide him with security. The Inspector General of Police wishes to reaffirm that the NPS plays a pivotal role in promoting and safeguarding national security, ensuring the safety of all Kenyans, residents, visitors, and their property,” the statement reads.

“In light of Gachagua’s security concerns, he is advised to liaise with police officers at all levels should he require additional security measures and notify the police in advance of his movements and public engagements to facilitate proper planning and coordination of his security arrangements.”

NPS said that in fulfilling its mandate, it is obligated under Article 244(c) of the Constitution to uphold human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The Service reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to constitutional impartiality, serving all persons without political bias.

NPS assured the public that the security situation nationwide remains stable, and proactive measures have been implemented to prevent criminal activities.

“Police shall dutifully respond to all security needs where and when requested as provided for under the law.”

NPS said it remains apolitical and steadfast in proactively deploying intelligence-led measures to preempt and respond to security threats through multi-agency approaches while strictly upholding the rule of law and human rights.

Gachagua claimed that his family members have been trailed by unknown people on other occasions who use unmarked cars and clandestine number plates.

On December 28, 2024, Gachagua claimed that an organised criminal gang disrupted his meeting in Shamata, Nyandarua County.

He alleged that a tear gas canister were fired at him to scatter his supporters and create grounds for his assassination.

Gachagua also stated that on January 18, 2025, at a prayer rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri town, his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, was attacked.
