Ruto on Wednesday hosted the winners of the Kenya National Drama and Film Festival 2025 at the State House, Nakuru, for a state concert.

The state concert featured performances by top schools that excelled in the 2025 Kenya National Schools Drama and Film Festival.

Among the standout institutions were Moi High School Mbiruri from Embu County, Kanyuambora High School, and Kangaru High School, all of which earned national recognition for their creative productions.

This year’s festival drew widespread public interest, particularly due to the controversy surrounding Butere Girls High School’s play titled Echoes of War.

The piece, which delved into politically sensitive themes, ignited a national debate and attracted mixed reactions from education stakeholders and the public.

The State Concert marks the climax of the annual Kenya National Drama and Film Festival, a prestigious event that celebrates creative expression in schools and institutions of higher learning across the country.

The festival, which has run for decades, showcases a wide array of theatrical and cinematic talent, ranging from plays and cultural dances to films and modern digital storytelling.

The state concert, traditionally hosted at the official residence of the President, offers an opportunity for the top-performing schools and groups to perform before an audience of dignitaries, government officials, educators, and the Head of State.

It also serves as a national platform to highlight the role of the arts in education, social awareness, and cultural preservation.
