A section of religious leaders hailing from Limuru, alongside police from the area, held special prayers at Manguo area along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Wednesday.

The leaders sought divine intervention following a series of road accidents that had been witnessed in the blackspot in the recent past, leading to an alarming rate of fatalities.

They raised their arms, knelt in humility and spread anointing oil on the ground in prayer.

Speaking on Wednesday, Pastor Paul Wandati of the Limuru Pastors Association stated that they had convened to offer prayers and sanctify the highway to God.

"There have been tragic accidents happening between Kamandura and Ngarariga. We prayed and advised drivers to be cautious, especially during the Easter holidays. KENHA has also assured us that they will put the necessary road markings in place to help prevent further loss of life," said Pastor Wandati.

Gikuyu community elders were also present as they conducted traditional rituals and highlighted the need for the government to prioritise road safety and improve infrastructure in the location.

“We are calling upon the government to do what they are supposed to do within all their department and agencies. We do not want these accidents to continue,” the elders said.

Limuru MP John Kiragu said the government remained committed to the execution of the Rironi-Mau summit road project despite experiencing delays.

“We have plans in place to dual this road from here to Mau summit. The reason we want to do that is to eliminate the issue of vehicles overtaking each other because most of the problems we have here are having people who want to overtake,” he stated.

Three people were reported dead, with nine injured, on April 14 in a head-on collision between a lorry and a matatu on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

The road accident occurred at the same location where five people were killed in a similar crash just days earlier, raising concerns about road safety.
