Man arrested, 27 phones seized in Naivasha raid

Detectives say they caught him red-handed, flashing a collection of stolen mobile phones.

Naivasha detectives have arrested a man linked to the illegal trade of stolen mobile phones.

The suspect, 33 years old, was apprehended following a raid at his shop located at in Naivasha town.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest was made after detectives acted on reliable intelligence.

The team caught him red-handed, flashing a collection of stolen mobile phones.

"A search of the premises led to the recovery of one HP laptop, 27 assorted mobile phones, and a mobile phone flashing kit," DCI said.

"The tools recovered revealed the extent of his operations," DCI added.

The suspect is currently in custody at Naivasha Police Station. He is undergoing processing pending arraignment.

The Naivasha arrest comes hours after a similar incident where detectives from Embakasi Police Station in Nairobi apprehended two suspects behind a burglary that took place on April 20, 2025, at a godown.

The theft resulted in an estimated loss of approximately Sh17.6 million worth of goods, police said.

The goods included assorted TV sets, some of which had been sold off.

According to a report filed at Mombasa Road Police Station, employees returned to work following the Easter holidays and were met with disbelief as they found that the store had been broken into and assorted goods had been stolen.

Responding to the report, officers established that a group of individuals armed with crude weapons had gained entry by cutting through the iron sheet roof, strategically accessing the accounts offices and storeroom.

Inside, the thieves stole 363 pieces of 43 inch Hisense Tv, 20 pieces of 20 inch HB Tv, 11 sets of HS 218 soundbars, four HP laptops, two mobile phones, desktop computers, school bags, spare parts, and CCTV servers, among other items, before vanishing, leaving no immediate trace behind.
