Proprietors of a city clinic and a doctor who works at the facility will return to court today for pre-trial directions in a case where they are charged with manslaughter.
Surgeon Robert Mutula was charged alongside Omnicare Medical Limited, also known as Body by Design, owners George Njoroge and Lillian Edna Winjiru, with manslaughter.
They denied the charges before Kibera senior principal magistrate Samson Temu.
After spending two weeks on remand, the court had on April 15 released them on Sh1 million bond with an alternative bail of Sh500,000 each.
Today, the trio will be back before the magistrate to
conclude pretrial and set dates for the start of the hearing of the case.
The charges against Mutula, George and Wanjiru stem from allegations of a botched cosmetic surgery linked to the death of businesswoman Lucy Wambui.
Wambui died in October last year from complications from a surgical procedure.
The social media influencer underwent a cosmetic
surgery at Omnicare Medical clinic, also known as Body by Design, and was
discharged on October 18.
The clinic is co-owned by George Wakaria and Edna Wanjiru, who are husband and wife.
Elsewhere, before another magistrate at the Kibera law court, Eric Mutinda, the suspect behind the murder of Multimedia University student Sylvia Kemunto, will be arraigned before Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul.
The court had on April 7 ordered that he be detained for 21 days pending the conclusion of investigations.
In today’s mention, the state will report to the court whether the probe has been completed or if they require more days.
Mutinda is alleged to have killed Kemunto and dumped her body in a water tank on the rooftop of one of the university's hostels.
He then escaped to his rural home in Makueni, from where he surrendered to police on April 4.
Mutinda allegedly confessed to police, saying he and the slain woman had been in a relationship, but they had differences, which he was trying to reconcile.
