President William Ruto is set to return to the country today, following a week out in China and a weekend in the Vatican.

Ruto on Saturday joined other high-ranking world leaders to bid farewell to Pope Francis.

Ruto joined world leaders and Catholic faithful who had travelled from across the globe to pay their final respects to the late pontiff.

In China, Ruto visited research institutions and cultural sites in Fujian Province on the south-east coast of the country.

There, he was accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya's envoy to China Willy Bett and China's ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan.

Ruto’s historic visit marked the first by an African leader since the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), underscoring Kenya’s strategic partnership with China.

Talks between President Ruto and his host centered on China's investment in Kenya's critical infrastructural projects, strengthening of the Global South cooperation, regional peace and security, among other issues of global concern.

Kindiki to tour Samburu and Marsabit counties

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is set to commission the Maralal Municipal Market, in Samburu County, at 9.30 am.

He will later inspect the ongoing construction works at the Yiamo Dam in Marsabit County.

The DP has been on a tour at various parts of the country, having been at Embu County in Saturday and Kisii County on Sunday.

Kindiki to chair joint Cabinet Committees

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki will also chair joint Cabinet Committees meeting at his official residence in Karen, from 2pm.
