Crime scene

Police in Bungoma South are investigating a murder incident where a man was lynched by a mob in a case of mistaken identity.

The incident happened in Khalaba village and involved a casual labourer.

The victim had ventured into the homestead of a former mother-in-law seeking reconciliation with his former wife.

He was noticed in the compound as he was not expected, and an alarm was raised, alerting locals who stoned him, leaving him with deadly injuries.

He succumbed to the injuries hours later. Police said they are looking for the villagers who participated in the murder.

Police discourage mob lynching and term it criminal.

This is because most of the suspects are innocent, and some are framed before being killed.

Elsewhere, a 33-year-old man was killed after a heap of sand he was harvesting trapped him in Ivumbuni village, Machakos County.

Police said the victim, Stephen Kyengo, 33, died after being trapped by the sand he and his colleagues were harvesting on Tuesday.

The man had dug a hole in their ancestral land and was harvesting sand when it caved in and buried him alive.

Locals rushed to his rescue and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

According to police, such incidents are common amid calls for caution to tame the trend.

In Lungalunga, Kwale County, one Patrick Lumumba, 60, was found dead after a suspected murder.

Police said the body was found lying on the roadside with blood oozing from its ears and eyes.

He also had a visible injury on the left hand when the body was found in Kisasi village.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

So far, no arrest has been made in connection with the June 3 incident.

Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man was found murdered and his body dumped in a river in Hamisi, Vihiga County.

Police said the body of Jones Kivasa was found on the river Jebrok long after he had been killed on Tuesday, June 3.

The body had visible injuries in the head occasioned by a blunt object, police said.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known.
