Police are investigating after a man’s body was found dumped on a private coffee farm in Matungulu, Machakos county.

The deceased, believed to have worked at a barber shop in Tala town, Matungulu sub-county, was discovered on Monday morning at the farm.

The discovery has sparked public outrage, with locals demanding answers about the man’s death. It is suspected he was murdered.

Police removed the body to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is pending.

Area MCA Jackson Ndaka is among those expressing concern over what they describe as a rise in insecurity in the region.

Esther Mwende, a village elder, told reporters they found the body dumped on the farm at around 6am.

“We suspect the man was murdered elsewhere and his body dumped here. Residents are angered by the incident and are asking many questions,” Mwende said at the scene.

Stephen Kituku, chairman of the Tala market bodaboda operators, said they were shocked to learn of the man’s death after the body was found in the coffee plantation.

“We do not know the reasons behind the killing. We are deeply aggrieved and urge the police to do all they can to bring the killers to justice,” Kituku said.

He also urged locals not to take the law into their own hands by resorting to violence when disputes arise.

The body was found just hours after another was discovered inside a school bathroom in Masinga sub-county, Machakos county.

The second victim, a Form Four student, is reported to have taken her own life in the bathroom under unclear circumstances early on Monday.
