Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has issued a firm warning to individuals who engaged in criminal activities during last Wednesday’s nationwide protests.

Omollo assured Kenyans that those responsible for the chaos will be held accountable.

Speaking at a church event in Mathare North on Sunday, Omollo acknowledged that the protests were largely driven by legitimate concerns from the youth but said criminal elements hijacked the demonstrations to cause destruction and chaos.

“Our youth came to the streets for good reasons, but criminals infiltrated the demos to cause chaos and destruction of property,” said Omollo. “We will do everything possible to ensure that every individual involved in unlawful acts is brought to book.”

The PS emphasised the importance of discipline and collective responsibility, urging both young people and parents to play their roles in building a cohesive and progressive nation.

“Discipline is needed for us to have a country that is forward-moving,” he noted, stressing that Kenya’s greatest challenge is not just political but societal — one that requires the contribution of leaders, religious institutions, and citizens alike.

Omollo also took aim at politicians accused of inciting unrest, warning that such leaders often manipulate the youth for personal gain while shielding their own families from the dangers of street demonstrations.

“Those leaders will not be there to defend you. They will be at the comfort of their homes and they will not allow their children to go to the streets,” he cautioned.

He urged the youth to resist being used by what he called “bad leaders,” reiterating that the government would not tolerate criminal behaviour under the guise of political protest.

“The government will not allow criminal acts to be used as a vehicle for advancing political interests,” Omollo stated.

“Let us give our leaders the space to deliver for the country. When elections come, Kenyans will decide.”

The PS encouraged peaceful civic engagement, saying that political messaging and dissent must be expressed without disrupting national peace.

“Sell your agenda peacefully without disrupting the peace of the country,” he urged.
