

Tragedy struck a family
when their two-and-a-half-year-old boy died after falling from the third floor of
an apartment in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.
According to the police
and witnesses, the boy was playing with other children on the balcony of the
building when she suddenly fell off.
Witnesses said he had
leaned on a metal grill on the balcony while playing when it cracked and let
him fall to the ground floor.
He was rushed to the
hospital where he succumbed to the injuries, police said of the December 8
incident.
The body was moved to
the mortuary pending other procedures.
In a different incident, a carpenter died
after falling from the 12th floor of a house under construction
along Juja Road, Nairobi.
Enos Odhiambo, 20, was among workers at the site on Tuesday evening when he slipped through a void and landed on the second floor of the building.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital in Eastleigh, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures, police said.
Such deaths have been
common at construction sites amid calls for contractors to prioritise the
workers’ safety.
Elsewhere in the Ruai
area, Nairobi, one Peter Kariuki, 25, drowned in a swimming pool in the Utawala
area.
Police said he was
swimming as he asked his brother to take a video of him in the session.
He had gone to the area
for the swimming sessions on Tuesday afternoon when the incident happened at
the private pool.
He was removed from the water while unconscious and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival
Police were informed of
the tragedy and visited the scene as part of the probe. The body was moved to
the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
Meanwhile, three suicide
incidents were reported separately on Tuesday, police said.
The first incident in
Sunton area, Kasarani, where one Virginia Mwende, 28, died after jumping off from
the rooftop of an apartment in a suicide mission.
The woman had been
exhibiting signs of depression before the incident happened, her family said.
She went to the fourth
floor of the apartment and jumped off before landing fatally.
The body was moved to
the mortuary pending an autopsy.
The other incidents were
reported in Bonyamatuta in Nyamira and Kianyabinge, Kisii Town. The bodies were
moved to the mortuaries pending autopsies.
Cases of suicide have been on the rise amid efforts to address the menace of depression.
