Detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) in Kilimani have arrested a suspect linked to a burglary incident reported at an apartment in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.
Police said the break-in occurred under the cover of darkness, with the suspect allegedly gaining entry into two homes and stealing valuables estimated at about Sh900,000.
According to investigators, the affected residents reported the incident after discovering that several personal belongings had been taken during the night.
The matter was escalated, prompting detectives to launch a targeted manhunt aimed at tracing the suspect and recovering the stolen property.
Acting on intelligence-led investigations, officers tracked the suspect to an apartment along Thiongo Road in Kangemi, where the arrest was successfully carried out.
The operation also led to the recovery of a range of electronic and household items believed to have been stolen during the Kileleshwa break-in.
Among the recovered items were a base-proof light headset, a gaming console charging system, an iPad 11, a JBL portable speaker, an iPhone 14 Pro Max and PlayStation accessories.
Police said the items were later identified by the complainants as their property. The recovered goods, once associated with comfort and entertainment, are now being held as exhibits as investigations continue.
The suspect is currently in custody undergoing processing ahead of arraignment. Police indicated that the case forms part of ongoing efforts to curb burglary and housebreaking incidents in Nairobi and surrounding areas.
In a related development, police officers in Murang’a County have also intensified operations targeting burglary suspects linked to a series of house break-ins reported in the area. The National Police Service confirmed the operation, noting that it followed information received from members of the public.
The Service stated, “Yesterday, police officers from Ithanga Police Station conducted a successful operation targeting suspects linked to a series of burglary and house break-in incidents across Murang’a County.”
It further added, “Acting on credible information received from members of the public, the officers moved swiftly and raided the homes of two suspects believed to have been involved in criminal activities that have recently affected residents within the county.”
During the operation, recovered items were positively identified by victims. The Service said, “During the operation, several household items earlier reported stolen at Ithanga Police Station were recovered, including mobile phones, assorted electronic devices and other household goods.”
It also confirmed, “The complainants positively identified the recovered items as their property.”
Authorities say the coordinated operations reflect continued efforts to disrupt burglary networks and recover stolen property across different counties. Investigations are ongoing.
