Man arrested after fatal stabbing of wife in Mwihoko
Detectives have arrested a 59-year-old man suspected of killing his wife during a domestic altercation in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.
Police said the suspect was arrested in Kayole after detectives used forensic leads to trace him.
The incident occurred on June 14 at a shop in the Delta area of Mwihoko Township, where the deceased, 47, operated her business.
According to police, an altercation broke out between the couple before the woman sustained a stab wound to the right side of her chest.
Officers who responded to the scene found her lying in a pool of blood with serious injuries.
She was rushed to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body was later moved to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.
Investigators recovered a bloodstained spearhead believed to have been used in the incident. The weapon has been secured as an exhibit.
Police said the suspect left the scene immediately after the incident, prompting detectives to launch a manhunt.
“Thanks to forensic leads, officers trailed and arrested him at a hideout in Kayole,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said in a statement.
The suspect is in custody and is being processed pending arraignment in court.
The arrest comes days after another fatal incident that police linked to a relationship dispute in Nairobi.
On May 15, police arrested a 22-year-old man after he allegedly stabbed his former girlfriend along Kirichwa Road in Kilimani.
Police said the suspect and the deceased worked for the same money-lending company and had previously been in a relationship.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the two had separated, with the woman reportedly moving out of the man's house in Kawangware and relocating to her aunt's home.
According to police, colleagues described the relationship as toxic, although investigators said they had not established the circumstances that led to the separation.
The woman had resumed work on May 14 after being away for several weeks. Police said a meeting had been held at the workplace that day in an attempt to address differences between the two.
Investigators said the suspect later trailed the woman and attacked her as she walked home with colleagues.
Kilimani police commander Patricia Yegon said the suspect was arrested at the scene by members of the public before being taken into police custody.
“The blood stains that he had were from the slain woman,” Yegon said at the time.
Authorities have urged members of the public to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes and to report cases of violence before they escalate.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations also appealed to the public to share information that may help investigators tackle crime through its anonymous reporting channels.
Investigations into the Mwihoko incident are ongoing.
