The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has ruled out any extension of the June 30 deadline for filing 2025 income tax returns, urging taxpayers yet to comply to submit their returns immediately to avoid penalties.

‎In a statement Saturday, the tax authority said all taxpayers with an income tax obligation must file their returns by midnight Tuesday, June 30, warning that those who fail to meet the statutory deadline will face penalties and possible default tax assessments.

‎KRA commended the millions of taxpayers who have already filed their returns and appealed to those yet to do so not to wait until the final hours.

‎"There will be no extension of the filing deadline. All returns must be submitted on or before June 30, 2026, in accordance with the law," the authority said.

‎KRA said filing tax returns is not only a legal requirement but also an important contribution towards financing public services and promoting accountability.

‎"Filing your tax return is more than a legal obligation; it is a contribution to national development. Every return filed supports transparency, strengthens the tax system and helps the Government finance essential public services that benefit all Kenyans," the authority said.

‎To ease the filing process, KRA said taxpayers can submit their returns through several digital platforms, including the iTax system, eCitizen, WhatsApp assistance and the USSD platform.

‎The authority has also extended operating hours at its customer service centres, Huduma Centres, KRA Service Centres and Ushuru Mashinani Service Partners across the country to handle the anticipated surge in demand ahead of the deadline.

‎Taxpayers experiencing challenges have been advised to seek assistance through the KRA Contact Centre, email, social media platforms or by visiting the nearest KRA office.

‎KRA cautioned against waiting until the last day, noting that increased traffic on digital platforms could cause delays and inconvenience.

‎"Filing early allows sufficient time to resolve any issues and ensures compliance before the deadline," the authority said.

‎The tax collector reiterated its commitment to supporting taxpayers throughout the filing period, saying additional customer support measures have been put in place to ensure returns are submitted without unnecessary delays.

‎The June 30 deadline marks the close of the annual income tax return filing season, with millions of individual taxpayers expected to comply.

‎Failure to file returns within the stipulated period attracts penalties under the Income Tax Act, while persistent non-compliance may also result in default assessments by the tax authority.

‎KRA thanked taxpayers who have already complied and urged the rest to fulfil their obligations before the deadline, saying tax compliance remains critical in supporting government programmes and national development.
