Jubilee Party presidential hopeful Fred Matiang'i on Monday held talks with Acting United States Ambassador to Kenya Susan Burns, with the discussions focusing on Kenya's development and the aspirations of its people.

In a statement after the meeting, Matiang'i described the engagement as an opportunity to exchange views on a wide range of issues affecting the country.
"This afternoon, I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Susan Burns, Acting U.S. Ambassador to Kenya. We held discussions on a wide range of issues concerning Kenya's development and the aspirations of our people. I appreciate her valuable insights and the opportunity to exchange perspectives," Matiang'i said.
The meeting comes as Matiang'i continues his political engagements ahead of the 2027 general election, although he did not disclose further details of the discussions with the US envoy.
The meeting also comes days after Jubilee Party leader and former President Uhuru Kenyatta hosted Burns at his Ichaweri home in Gatundu, Kiambu County, on July 7.
Uhuru shared photographs of the courtesy call on his social media pages but did not disclose the agenda of the meeting or provide details of the discussions.
Similarly, the US Embassy did not publicly comment on the engagement.
Burns' meeting with the former Head of State formed part of a series of diplomatic engagements the senior American envoy has held with leaders from across Kenya's political divide.
Matiang'i, who has emerged as one of the leading figures in the United Opposition, has stepped up his public engagements in recent months as the coalition seeks to position itself against President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration.
While the meetings have been described as courtesy calls, they underscore the continued engagement between Kenya's political leaders and members of the diplomatic community on issues relating to governance, regional affairs and bilateral cooperation.
Diplomatic missions routinely meet leaders from both the government and opposition as part of their broader engagement with Kenya's political landscape.
