French court sentences ex-Rwandan cop to life over genocide

According to the BBC, the court also found Philippe Hategekimana guilty of crimes against humanity.

During the trial, the prosecutors described him as having played a central part in carrying out the killings. It included inciting others to kill.

The crimes took place during the 1994 Rwandan genocide, when Hutu militias killed hundreds of thousands of Tutsis and moderate Hutus.

It is estimated that around 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed in the genocide.

Hategekimana fled to France after the genocide, acquired refugee status and later on French nationality under the name of Philippe Manier.
