Sudan’s Army chief Lt. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has survived an assassination attempt.

According to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), this followed an attack by two drones at a graduation ceremony for his troops.

At least five people were injured in the attack. The attack occurred in Jebeit, a town in eastern Sudan.

General Burhan who is also Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council did not sustain any injuries from the attack.

In a video shared by Sudan News, Burhan later on visited Jebeit hospital after the attack.

It, however, remains unclear why he visited.

Civilians at the hospital are seen cheering as they interact with him.

This comes even as the SAF and paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue to battle for control of Sudan.

Both sides have continued to claims victory as they fight to take over key town in the country.

The RSF originated in Darfur and has been accused of atrocities against non-Arabic groups in the region.

The civil war between the two rival factions of the military government of Sudan, the Sudanese Armed Forces under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces under the Janjaweed leader, Hemedti, began during Ramadan on 15 April 2023.

While fighting has been chiefly concentrated in the country’s capital, Khartoum, the conflict has impacted other regions of the country.

According to the International Rescue Committee, over 15,500 people have been killed as a result of the war.

Over 10 million people have also been displaced in Sudan.
