In the fiercely competitive world of consumer electronics, Prateek Suri,  CEO and founder of Africa-based electronics brand Maser, has consistently defied the odds.

Due to his unyielding ambition and strategic foresight, Suri has steered Maser from a modest startup to a formidable player in the global market.

Now, with a valuation crossing $5 billion (Sh647.5 billion) the expansion plan is in the pipeline,Suri is setting his sight on redefining the industry landscape and positioning Maser as a household name across continents.

Suri's journey began with a clear mission: to make high-quality, affordable consumer electronics accessible to everyone.

Recognizing the growing demand for budget-friendly products without compromising on quality, Suri founded Maser in 2014.

The company initially focused on producing affordable LED televisions, targeting markets in the Middle East and Africa where high costs often kept such technologies out of reach for the average consumer.

From the outset, Suri’s strategy was clear—focus on cost efficiency, streamline production processes, and leverage emerging markets.

His approach paid off as Maser's products quickly gained traction, offering consumers a reliable alternative to pricier brands.

By 2022, Maser had established itself as a prominent player in the Middle East and Africa, with annual revenues exceeding $500 million and valuation of $1.9 billion after innovation group came in.

The firm says that the $5 billion (Sh645 billion) expansion plan represents the culmination of years of careful planning and a deep understanding of global market dynamics.

Central to this plan is the goal of expanding Maser's product line beyond LED televisions to include a range of smart home devices, mobile phones, and personal computing gadgets.

The expansion will also see Maser entering new markets in Asia, Europe, and North America, regions where the vision bearer believes the brand’s value proposition will resonate strongly.

“Our vision has always been to democratize technology,” Suri, aged 34, told The Star.

“We want to ensure that every household, regardless of its income level, has access to the latest and most innovative electronics. This expansion is about taking that mission to the next level on a global scale.”

A significant portion of the $5 billion valuation will help in is strategic acquisitions and partnerships.

Suri understands that to break into established markets, Maser needs not just innovation but also local expertise and established distribution networks.

The firm is currently in advanced talks talks to acquire a European electronics manufacturer known for its robust research and development capabilities.

Suri says that this acquisition will allow Maser to accelerate its product development cycle and tap into the European market with products that cater specifically to regional preferences.

In addition to acquisitions, Maser is also forging partnerships with tech giants and local distributors.

It has for instance already secured a partnership with a leading Chinese electronics firm to -develop a new line of smart home devices.

This collaboration will enable Maser to leverage cutting-edge technology while maintaining its cost-effective production model.

At the heart of Suri’s expansion plan is innovation. Recognizing the rapid pace of technological advancements, Suri has invested heavily in Maser's R&D department.

The company recently opened a state-of-the-art innovation hub in Africa, staffed by top engineers and designers from around the world.

This hub is tasked with developing the next generation of Maser products, focusing on AI integration, energy efficiency, and seamless connectivity.

One of the flagship products expected to launch as part of the expansion is a smart television that doubles as a home control center.

This device, which integrates AI-driven voice assistance and IoT capabilities, is designed to be the cornerstone of the modern smart home.

Suri believes that by offering such multifunctional devices at an affordable price, Maser can gain a competitive edge in both developed and emerging markets.

“We are not just creating products; we are creating ecosystems,” Suri said.

“Our upcoming range of smart devices will be designed to work together seamlessly, offering consumers a truly integrated and user-friendly experience.”

While the $5 billion valuation is remarkable, it is no without risks.

The global electronics market is highly competitive, with major players like Samsung, LG, and Xiaomi dominating key segments.

Additionally, the economic uncertainty caused by global events, such as supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures, could pose significant challenges.

He is acutely aware of these risks but remains confident in his strategy.

“Every expansion comes with its set of challenges, but I believe that our focus on affordability, quality, and innovation will set us apart. We have always been a company that thrives on challenges, and this expansion will be no different.”

To mitigate these risks, Suri is implementing a phased approach to the expansion.

The initial phase will focus on establishing a strong presence in select markets before scaling operations globally.

He is also prioritizing supply chain resilience by diversifying suppliers and investing in local manufacturing capabilities in key markets.

The business titan says that the expansion not just about growing Maser but more on transforming the global consumer electronics landscape.

By making high-quality, affordable technology accessible to a broader audience, Suri is challenging the status quo and driving a new era of inclusivity in the industry.

As Maser prepares to roll out its expanded product line and enter new markets, all eyes will be on Suri and his team.

If successful, this expansion could propel Maser into the ranks of the world’s leading electronics companies and cement Suri’s legacy as a visionary.
