SLEUTHS ARE CLOSING in on a youthful politician who was recently involved in a fight that resulted in knifing of one of his guests. The man had gone on a drinking spree with a bevy of beauties and later retreated with about four of them to a short-term rental facility in a posh neighbourhood. The damsels, who were as inebriated as their man, later engaged in a heated exchange, resulting in one attacking another with a kitchen knife. One person was recording the action on a phone all the while. Security agents on the case say they are tying every knot and all the evidence seems to point to the politician as a person of interest.

Billboards bearing the governor’s image stand high in almost every corner of the county. The towering images are everywhere: on poorly done roads, marketplaces, ill-equipped hospitals and outside schools, begging the question: is this value for money? Our moles intimate that millions of shillings have been splurged on the self-promotion billboards bonanza just to show who is in charge. Maybe it is time investigative agencies took note of the millions used for self-promotion at the expense of service delivery?

Basic services are not available to citizens. Amenities like feeder roads, street lighting, garbage collection, security and hospitals are in a pathetic state, yet the well-known career politician has over-invested in sprucing up his image and managing public perceptions about him. Now, residents don’t want to hear anything about him, complaining that he’s more concerned about what people think and his standing in national politics than delivery.
