Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has
refuted claims that party leader Raila Odinga had summoned its MPs over Deputy
President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment.
In a statement, the party said that there is no such
meeting.
“There is no such meeting today. Good day.”
This was in response to a post alleged to a digital card claiming that the meeting was to strategise on the impeachment,
despite public discontent with the current administration.
A quick check by The Star, however, revealed that Nation
had also flagged the post.
“Beware of fake news! If it’s not on our official
social media pages, it’s fake,” the daily said on X.
This comes even as the National Assembly is set to debate
Gachagua’s impeachment motion on Tuesday.
ODM deputy party leader and Kisii Governor, Simba Arati last week said the party had nothing to do with the DP’s removal from office.
Speaking on Friday after meeting Migori ODM delegates at the Lichota Show
Ground, Arati said what is happening in the impeachment process is the
prerogative and mandate of Parliament.
He affirmed that Parliament will assess, evaluate and
give a verdict on the impeachment motion as directed by the country's laws.
He, however, noted that ODM will support and respect
the outcome of both houses of Parliament because they have a right to do so.
