The Speaker of the National assembly is deemed the third most powerful person after the President and his deputy.
In case of any eventuality that will see the president and his deputy out of office, the Speaker of the National Assembly will take charge pending other legal processes.

The 13th parliament is today (Thursday) expected to elect its speaker with Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula being among the frontrunners for the seat.
