The government launched the plates in 2022 at the General Service Unit (GSU) Recce unit Headquarters in Ruiru where the plates are being produced.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) was tasked with rolling out the plates in compliance with the Traffic Act, of 2016.
The new plates contain enhanced security features that are aimed at making forgery or duplication of the plates impossible.
The security features will also allow law enforcement agencies to track vehicles and enable the Kenya Revenue Authority to track tax evaders.
