A global safety charity has published the first dataset that allows for global comparisons of household waste behaviors, emphasizing the environmental and health risks associated with uncontrolled waste disposal.
The report, A World of Waste: Risks and Opportunities in Household Waste Management, draws on data from the latest World Risk Poll by Lloyd's Register Foundation.
It reveals that more than 40 per cent of households worldwide dispose of waste without proper control, with common methods including dumping waste at local sites (18%) and open burning (14%), largely due to limited alternatives.
