Victims of accidents between Jan 1 and Aug 27
According to data from the National Police Service, between January 1 and August 27, 2024, road accidents claimed the lives of 2,797 people.
Pedestrians accounted for the highest number of deaths, with 1,177 fatalities, followed by motorcyclists (710 deaths) and passengers (595 deaths).
Drivers and pillion passengers also suffered significant losses with 262 and 259 deaths, respectively.
The total number of seriously injured victims stood at 7,855, with passengers and motorcyclists being the most affected.
This data highlights the severe impact of road accidents on various road users, calling for urgent action in improving road safety measures across the country.
