Kenya's cement consumption has shown significant fluctuations over the past five years, reflecting trends in construction and infrastructure development.
In 2019, consumption stood at 6,129.1 thousand tonnes, rising sharply to 7,375.6 thousand tonnes in 2020.
This growth was partly fueled by government-led projects and private sector investments during the pandemic recovery phase.
The upward trajectory continued in 2021, reaching 9,098.4 thousand tonnes. Consumption peaked at 9,494.2 thousand tonnes in 2022 but slightly declined to 9,201.8 thousand tonnes in 2023.
Employment levels in construction in the public sector rose from 9.5 thousand in 2022 to 9.7 thousand persons in 2023.
