Kenya's agricultural sector relies on several indicators, such as those linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP).
However, these indicators are often underreported or inadequately captured. In recent years, the quality and availability of agricultural data in the country have steadily declined.
To address this challenge, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) and the Kenya Fisheries Service (KeFS), launched annual data validation exercises across all 47 counties.
These efforts aim to supplement data from various sources and ensure that agricultural statistics—often derived from administrative records rather than standardised statistical methods—are accurate and reliable to meet the requirements of policymakers, farmers, and other stakeholders.
