Mathew Nyamlori, widely admired for his determination in academics, passed away on Monday, January 20, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi, his family reported.
Nyamlori, 40, had been fighting gastric cancer since 2022 and was known for sitting the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam nine times in his pursuit of education.
He gained widespread attention for his unwavering dedication to education, despite enduring significant hardships. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a doctor, but poverty made achieving his goals seem out of reach.
In 1998, he took the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) for the first time, earning an impressive 478 marks out of 700.
Nyamlori was admitted to Kabianga High School, but his family’s financial struggles made it impossible for him to afford the school fees, shattering his hopes of continuing to high school.
