Clinical officers nationwide have gone on strike, demanding their immediate inclusion in the Social Health Authority (SHA) system and the enforcement of their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
They argue that their exclusion has significantly hindered access to affordable healthcare for many Kenyans.
Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) Chairman Peterson Wachira criticised the government for barring clinical officers from the SHA claims approval system.
Wachira also pointed out that the government’s reliance on the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) as the sole accrediting body under SHA has marginalized numerous clinical officers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
