Kenya has witnessed a consistent and robust upward trajectory in national electricity connectivity over the last half-decade, reflecting a significant expansion of the national grid.

Data tracked by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority and the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics highlights a steady annual increase in the number of customers accessing power between 2020 and 2025.

The drive toward universal access has resulted in the total number of connected customers hitting a milestone of 10.06 million as of June 2025.

This figure represents a substantial rise from the statistics recorded in June 2021, where the customer base stood at 8.27 million. The subsequent years showed unyielding growth, with connections climbing to 8.89 million in 2022 and crossing the nine-million mark to reach 9.21 million by June 2023.

The momentum continued through 2024, which saw the figures rise to 9.66 million, setting the stage for the breach of the 10-million threshold the following year.

Overall, this five-year period documents a cumulative growth of 28% in Kenya Power’s customer base. The year-on-year additions indicate a sustained effort in infrastructure development and last-mile connectivity projects designed to bring more households and businesses onto the grid.

The progression from just over 8 million to over 10 million connected entities underscores the scale of the electrification initiatives undertaken during this period, solidifying the energy sector's expanding footprint across the country.
