
Kenya’s electricity imports have surged steadily since 2022, reflecting growing demand and regional energy reliance.
According to data from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority and the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, imports rose from 337.5 GWh in June 2022 to 644.07 GWh in June 2023.
By June 2024, the figure had nearly doubled to 1,196.06 GWh, reaching 1,533.85 GWh in June 2025.
