The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged people living with high blood pressure to adopt healthier lifestyles and adhere to prescribed medication to reduce the risk of serious complications.
According to the global health agency, hypertension can be prevented and controlled through simple but consistent measures. These include taking medication as prescribed, avoiding tobacco, reducing alcohol intake and staying physically active for at least 30 minutes a day.
WHO also recommends regular blood pressure checks, eating healthy and nutritious foods, cutting salt intake by using potassium-enriched salt where possible, and managing stress to improve heart health and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.
