Kenyans living in Lebanon have been warned of fraudsters demanding money to evacuate them.

This comes days after the government urged Kenyans living in the war torn country to register for evacuation amid escalating Israeli invasion.

The State Department for Diaspora Affairs called on Kenyans in Lebanon to report fraudsters trying to exploit them.

In a statement, the department said the evacuation process offered by the government is free.

“We would like to alert all Kenyans currently in Lebanon about reports of fraudsters exploiting vulnerable individuals. These individuals are unlawfully charging fees for evacuation services.

“Please be informed that the government of Kenya is conducting evacuations at no cost to citizens. The government entirely funds the evacuation and you should not pay anyone for these services,” the statement said.

For accurate information and assistance, Kenyans in Lebanon have been advised to seek help through help lines +254-114-757-002 (Kenya), +96-171-175-006 (Lebanon) and +96-590-906-719 (Kuwait).

“Stay safe and report any suspicious activities to our Embassy in Kuwait or email [email protected],” the state department said.

The government said it will continue to prioritise the safety of all Kenyans residing in Lebanon.

“We are deeply concerned that a large number of Kenyans in Lebanon have not yet registered for evacuation despite our repeated calls. To ensure the safety and timely evacuation of all our citizens, we urge all Kenyans in Lebanon to immediately register with us,” the State Department of Diaspora Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.

Registration is through https://www.diaspora.go.ke/lebanon.html or contact the department for communication and coordination through +96-590-906-719, +96-171-175-006 and +254-114-757-002.

The department said only registered Kenyans will be eligible for evacuation.

The deadline for registration is October 12, 2024, it emphasised.

The government said it has successfully evacuated two groups of Kenyans from Lebanon and is committed to continuing the efforts until every Kenyan in need is safely home.

Any Kenyan who wishes to be evacuated must ensure that their registration is completed before the date.
