Three homemade pistols were recovered from the house of a
suspect in a police operation in the Kabiria area, Nairobi.
Police said a team that was on patrol in the area spotted a
motorcycle with a pillion passenger making a wrong turn in the Dagoretti Corner
area on Thursday evening and decided to trail it.
The team stopped the rider and asked the passenger to leave
for them to interrogate him.
At the scene, according to police, they recovered a toy
pistol from the rider.
He later led the team to his house where three homemade
pistols were recovered.
Police said they also found an axe and a hacksaw from the
suspect’s house.
Also recovered was a police beret, which police suspect the
man has been using to impersonate.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said the homemade pistols
recovered are capable of firing fatal bullets.
“The suspect is under probe for us to know what he has been
doing and with who,” he said.
Cases of armed robbery have been on the rise in the area
amid police operations to address the trend.
Bungei said they have deployed more personnel to help in the
operations.
This has seen several suspects being arrested.
Bungei said they are targeting some motorcycle riders who
are engaged in crime.
“This is an intelligence-led operation which is ongoing. We
are making good progress,” he said.
