Government to fund university performing arts festivals - Ababu

The Government of Kenya will fund performing Arts festivals in universities, Youth, Sports and Arts CS Ababu Namwamba has said. 

Speaking at the closing ceremony of Kenya Universities Performing Arts Association National Festival, Namwamba said the move will promote local talent among the youth.

"To the youth, you can now rest, knowing that you have a home in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts," he said.

The fourth edition of the event was held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST).

The CS also thanked President William Ruto for having a full department in charge of arts and the creative industry. 

"For this, we thank President William Ruto for finding it worthy to dedicate a full department in charge of the Arts and our creatives industry."

The announcement comes a few days after Namwamba offered a job to the NYS officer Dickson Loyerer who became an internet sensation for cleaning the CS's shoes.

"Dickson Loyerer yesterday graciously volunteered to clean my muddy shoes after a tree planting session at Kenya National Youth Service HQ where he works," he said.

"This morning we shared a cup of tea in my office, he gave me awesome NYS-instilled tips on grooming, discipline and skills. I have requested Loyerer to join my staff, subject to approval by NYS and Public Service Commission."
