ODM leader Raila Odinga has condemned the attack on democracy and the peaceful transfer of power in Brazil.

"The attack on democracy and peaceful transfer of power in Brazil is deeply troubling and saddens me, we must defend the values that underpin our societies," he said. 

Raila said he supports Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and all who believe in the power of democracy.

"We support Lula da Silva and all who believe in the power of democracy and Brazil's democratic institutions and its people. We must defend the values that underpin our societies," he said.

According to the BBC, supporters of Brazil's former president had on Sunday stormed Congress, the Supreme Court and surrounded the presidential palace.

Police regained control of the buildings in the capital Brasilia on Sunday evening after hours of clashes.

Brasilia's civil police said that 300 people have been arrested.

Lula da Silva vowed to punish supporters of the country's ex-leader, Jair Bolsonaro, after they stormed Congress.
