Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday met with Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi over the drought situation in the county.
DP Gachagua said they discussed how to tackle the drought that has dominated the county for some time.
"I held a consultative meeting with the Governor of Wajir County Ahmed. We discussed pertinent issues around the current drought situation and areas of collaboration between the two levels of government in combating the ongoing drought," Gachagua said.
Gachagua said that Wajir like many other ASAL counties is reeling under the effects of the drought.
"A slight improvement is expected in a few localities within the ASAL areas, the January-March dry season is likely to reverse most of the gains," he said.
He, however, said the government is working with development partners and the private sector to provide both long-term and short-term solutions to the drought situation.
