Nyali MP Mohammed Ali has called on the government to do away with any discussions and publications of same-sex marriages in the country.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ali said even news on the subject ought not to be spread.
"The government should immediately ban any discussions, publications and spread of news on same-sex relationships and put in place measures to control the menace," Ali said.
He said this will protect society, especially children and youth, from getting influenced by what he termed as corrupt trends of same-sex marriages.
The legislator said marriages and family are the basic foundation of any society and the African culture highly values the institution of marriage which guarantees the continuation of human beings through procreation.
"Article 162 of the Penal Code criminalizes anyone who shares an unnatural sexual act with anyone against the order of nature," he said.
Ali said he is saddened that there has been an increased number of same-sex relationships in the country, attributing the increase "to the distribution of books and publications that promote such perversion."
He said the publication and distribution of material about same-sex relationships in publications and the media has a strong impact on society's values regarding sexual orientation.
