Courts jail three defilement convicts

The courts proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offences.

A man has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by Eldoret court for sodomizing a 15-year-old child.

John Wamwanji aged 36 Years, allegedly intoxicated the victim by giving him alcohol and then sodomized him.

Office of Director of Public Prosecutions said four witnesses were called in the matter and testified before the court.

“The prosecution called 4 witnesses in the matter. It is alleged that the accused intoxicated the victim by giving him alcohol & then sodomized him,” read the statement on Twitter.

In another case, a middle-aged man was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling a girl aged 5 years.

The prosecution led by Vera Abongo at the Kikuyu Law court proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offence of Defilement contrary to Section 8(1)(2) of the sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.

The prosecution also presented 4 witnesses in the case.

“The accused had also been charged with an alternative count of committing an indecent act with a child contrary to Section 11(1) of the sexual Offences Act No 3 of 2006,” said ODPP.

Elsewhere, a man has also been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling his 3-year-old daughter.

Winam Law Court Principal Magistrate, Chrispine Oruo, sentenced John Ondera after the prosecution which was led by Mwende Kavindu, presented 6 witnesses & proved the case against the accused person.

While delivering his judgment, Oruo noted that the accused relied on the following ingredients of evidence;

“The offender being a relative of the victim, the victim's age, and the medical report from the doctor which informed the decision on the nature and duration of the sentence,” noted Oruo.
