Public Service Commission has advertised 1,300 slots for trainers in Technical and Vocational Institutions.

The slots have been spread through 220 institutions across the country in 47 counties.

"Applications are invited from qualified Degree, Higher National Diploma and Diploma holders for the positions of Vocational and Technical Trainers," a notice in the local dailies reads.

From the available slots, PSC requires 588 trainers with a degree, 398 with higher diploma and 314 possessing a diploma.

Interested applicants should submit their applications by April 17, 2023.

"Interested and qualified persons are requested to submit their applications directly to the institutions where vacancies exist,' the notice reads.

The trainers are expected to fill ONE (1) PSC 2 (Revised 2016) application form and attach copies of their National ID card, academic and professional certificates, transcripts and any other testimonials.

Earlier this month, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu announced plans to recruit trainers to address the shortage in the institutions.

Machogu said National Treasury had already allocated funds for the drive in the budget for the next financial year 2023-24.

The CS's speech was read by TVET  PS Esther Muoria during the graduation ceremony at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic in Mombasa.

Machogu said the government had prioritized the expansion of TVETs through building, equipping, staffing and funding the construction of new institutions.

“I'm happy to inform you that the government will soon recruit 1,300 trainers to address the gap experienced in TVET institutions. The National Treasury has allocated the funds in the 2023-2024 annual budget and vacancies will be advertised,” Machogu said.

During a meeting with principals and managers of TVET institutions on February 15, Machogu said there are about 6,201 trainers in TVET institutions in the country.

He said there is a shortage of 8,817 trainers but the government plans to recruit 3,000 new trainers to address the shortage.
