Supreme Council of Kenyan Muslims has said they are humbled by the truce between President William Ruto and Azimio leader  Raila Odinga.

Through a statement, the Council called upon close associates of the two leaders to give them space to discuss the contentious issues frankly without interference.

"We urge the associates to give these leaders space for the sake of the betterment of the citizens of this great nation. We should not allow personal interests to jeopardise the greater good of all," the statement reads.

"We are watching! In this case, there is no winner or loser but Kenya gained."

They also congratulated the President for extending an olive branch to Raila in view of the political tension that has been building up in the country for the past couple of weeks.

"Equally, SUPKEM wishes to applaud the magnanimity of  Raila Odinga, for accepting the request by the President to call off the demonstrations," the statement further reads.

Ruto had on Sunday urged Raila to call off the plans demos, saying his doors are open for dialogue.

"Our position is that we want to engage our brothers and sisters on the other side on issues that are important to Kenyans, them as an opposition, us as a government," he said.

He, however, maintained that the talks must be based on sincere deliberations anchored on the rule of law.

In a rejoinder, Raila termed Ruto's statement as 'important" and a "positive" development.
