Azimio La Umoja Cheif Agent Saitabao Kanchory has revealed the day he almost offered to hand in his resignation to his boss Raila Odinga.

In his book, 'Why Baba is not the 5th', Kanchory vividly described how he barged into a meeting of  Muhoho Kenyatta, Junet Muhammed, Joe Mucheru and Makau Mutua, at the executive launch of the coalition's command centre at around midnight.

He said that he had not received the utmost support he needed from the team, as the election was just a stone's throw away.

"Things got so bad that on 2 August 2022, just a week before the election, After some uneasy exchange, I offered to hand in my resignation to Baba first thing the following morning to make it easier for everybody," he said.

"I asked them to fire me right there and then if they had the power to do so."

He further said the four (Muhoho, Junet, Mucheru and Makau)  pleaded with him to stay put, promising a better working arrangement and environment moving forward.

The lawyer added that he couldn't understand whether former ICT Cabinet secretary Joe Mucheru was driven by sheer incompetence or plain old sabotage.

"I couldn't get what his real motive was, but what is certain is he ensured nothing worked at the command centre," he added.

Kanchory added that Mucheru made it his business to outsource the personnel of the command centre and it soon became clear to anyone who cared to see that all the people he brought were either 'highly incompetent or were under instructions not to deliver".

"Mucheru's people appear to have been coached not to take any instructions from the CEO Ms Elizabeth Meyo or me."

He narrated that his instructions at the command centre were disregarded even on the basic issue of the dispatch of appointment letters to agents.

"Never mind that the said letters had been drafted by myself and had my signature on them."

Kanchory went further to state the poor working conditions of his office, stating that his office had neither an independent budget nor a secretariat, which made him totally helpless being at the mercy of Mucheru's team at the command centre.

"The main reason I agreed to stay on as Raila's national chief agent after the mess and frustrations at the command centre was that I thought I could somehow help restore order," he stated.

"Knowing Baba would not listen to me over the likes of Junet and Makau Mutua. I would often ask Governor Charity Ngilu to be the one to convey to him the horrible mess going on at the command centre."
