Ruto settles on Melly as SRC commissioner

His nomination was communicated in Parliament by Speaker Moses Wetangula.

President William Ruto has nominated former Uasin Gishu Senator Isaac Melly as a commissioner to the Salaries and remuneration commission (SRC).

Melly, whose nomination has been subjected to a parliamentary committee for vetting, will represent the Parliamentary service commission (PSC) if the MPs approve his name.

 
 

“I wish to convey a message from the President relating to the nomination of a representative of the Parliamentary service commission to the Salaries and remuneration commission,” National Assembly Moses Wetangula said in his communication.

The nomination of Melly is in the exercise of powers conferred on him by Article 230 (b) of the Constitution as read together with Article 250 (2c) and the SRC Act 211.

“In this regard, the President now seeks the approval of the nominee by this House,” said Wetangula.

Melly is among the 10 candidates the parliamentary commission had recently nominated for the position.

Others were Naomi Shaban (Taveta), Florence Mutua (Busia Woman Representative), David Were (Matungu), Peter Mwathi (Limuru) and Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache North).

 The Commission had received up to 103 applicants. 

Abdi Muhumed Ali, Justa Wawira Mwangi, Ruth Nyaga and Judith Wachianga Ojwang also made it to the list.

Interviews for the job were held on March 22, 2023.

SRC is currently chaired by Lyn Mengich with Amani Komora as the vice chairperson.

It has eight commissioners and Ann Gitau is the CEO.

Its mandate is to set and regularly review the remuneration and benefits of all state officers and to advise the national and county governments on the remuneration and benefits of all other public officers.
