The Usawa Kwa Wote Party leader Mwangi Wa Iria has said the opposition will not support a government that runs a shareholder administration.

Speaking during a town hall meeting attended by Azimio La Umoja Leaders Raila Odinga, Martha Karua and Eugene Wamalwa in Muranga, the former governor said non-shareholders also have a stake in this country.

"We can’t have a government that runs a shareholders’ administration. And if it is so, then we shall have the rest of Kenyans who never voted for them running their affairs," he said.

His statement comes after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's statement made in February regarding government appointments.

The DP had said that appointments and jobs will only be given to people who had supported President William Ruto and voted for him in August 2022.

"This government is a shares company. It has the owners who have majority shares, those with minority shares and those that don't have any shares," Gachagua said.

However, Gachagua, while launching Nairobi Water Commission at Korogocho clarified and stated that his statement applied to the appointment of public servants and not developments.

"Ruto has told us, and we have agreed that Kenya is ours. Those who voted for him and those who did not are all Kenyans and since he is the President, he will serve them and keep up the work," he said.

"We want to reiterate that development will be rolled out all over the Republic of Kenya because every Kenyan is paying their taxes."
