The Kenya Pipeline Board has re-appointed Joe Sang as the Managing Director for a four-year term following the conclusion of the recruitment process.

His appointment was announced on Tuesday by the KPC board chairperson, Faith Boinett.

"Sang’s contract will be for a fresh term of four years, renewable subject to performance," Boinett said.

Sang held the same position between 2016 and 2018.

He rejoined KPC three months ago as acting Managing Director.

Sang exited the board after he was forced to resign over graft allegations.

In December 2018, he was arrested and arraigned over the construction of a Sh1.9 billion oil jetty in Kisumu.

He was acquitted of the charges last month paving way for his return to the MD posit in an acting capacity.

Boinett said Sang’s brief tenure at KPC (2016-2018) saw remarkable changes in the management and performance of the State corporation.

"I was part of the KPC board that witnessed the profitability of the company's rise steadily from 2016 when he assumed management, culminating in a record profit before tax of Sh8.6 billion in 2018," Boinett said.

She said it was the highest profit in the 50-year history of the company.

“Mr Sang has a very good grasp of all the issues and processes at KPC and in view of his good performance record with the company, the Board of Directors in consultation with the parent ministry (Ministry of Energy and Petroleum) determined that he is the most suitable person to be appointed to the position of MD KPC,” she said.

Sang will take over from Irungu Macharia who finished his three-year tenure in January.
