Jubilee national chairman Nelson Dzuya has denounced a National Executive Council meeting that was purportedly convened by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta Friday morning.

Dzuya said the meeting “was of no consequence” as it lacked quorum in line with Article 23 of Jubilee's Constitution.

It provides that all meetings by party organs must be attended by a third of all members entitled to attend.

“The members of NEC entitled to attend are 29 and therefore to meet quorum, a NEC meeting cannot have less than nine members in attendance,” he explained.

“Additionally, if the suspended members were in attendance, their participation would be of no legal consequence and their numbers would not count,” he added.

Dzuya claimed those in attendance included Ndaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni, David Murathe and Kagwe Gichohi.

“These three officials have been suspended by NEC pending the internal disputes resolution processes of the party pursuant to the judgment of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal delivered on April 19, 2023,” he said.

He added that only Kanini Kega, the acting secretary general, or his deputy, Joshua Kutuny, can issue a valid notice to convene a NEC meeting.

Efforts to reach Kioni to confirm whether there was such a meeting and if he attended were futile as he did not answer his phone or respond to texts. Kega could also not be reached for comment.

Dzuya said Uhuru ceased being the party leader in March, 2023 by dint of Section 6(1) of the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act.

It provides that a retired president cannot hold office in any political party for more than six months after stopping to hold office as Head of State.

Dzuya further dismissed claims that during Friday's meeting, some officials resigned from their positions.

“We notify the public that there have been no resignations and any such letter of resignation that may come to light would be fraudulent and criminal in nature,” he stated.

The Jubilee national chair assured members and supporters that the will remain steadfast in serving all its members.

On Thursday, Dzuya censured Uhuru for his recent unannounced visit to Jubilee headquarters saying it was unacceptable for the party to be treated as a lesser partner in Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition.

Uhuru made an unannounced appearance at Jubilee party headquarters on Wednesday as the infighting between two camps in the former ruling outfit spilled over.
