Five Cabinet Secretaries are scheduled to appear before Senate on Wednesday to respond to questions from lawmakers.

The five are Kipchumba Murkomen (Roads, Transport and Public Works), Peninah Malonza (Tourism), Ezekiel Machogu (Education), Zacharia Mwangi Njeru (Lands, Housing and Urban Development) and Kithure Kindiki (Interior and National Administration).

Murkomen will respond to questions by Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana who wants the government to state the distance in kilometres of tarmac roads that it has constructed since independence.

“Could the Cabinet Secretary provide a list of roads in Tana River County that have been upgraded to bitumen standards,” another question by Mungatana reads.

He also wants the CS to explain why Tana River has been “marginalised in the national government’s development plans.”

Malonza will respond to questions by Nominated Senator Veronica Maina.

She wants the CS to state the number of cruise ships that have docked in Kenya since January 2022 and also those expected to dock by June 2023.

She wants the CS to also state the measures the government has put in place to market Kenya as a cruise tourist destination and address the cancellation of voyages or change of destinations from Kenya by cruise ships.

Machogu will also respond to questions by Maina. She wants the CS to provide the number of seafarers trained by Bandari College and deployed to the local and international markets.

“Could the Cabinet Secretary provide information as to the suitability and capacity of Bandari College to undertake the government’s commitment to training 250 seafarers annually” one of the questions reads.

Njeru will respond to questions by Tharaka Nithi Senator Mwenda Gataya.

He wants the CS to explain the delays in demarcation, adjudication and issuance of titles to residents of Ntoroni, Thiiti, Mukothima and Turima Division in Tharaka Nithi County.

Kindiki will respond to questions by Laikipia Senator John Kinyua who wants him to appraise the Senate on the state of security in Laikipia and the wider North Rift.
