Uasin Gishu will instal CCTV cameras at some of its main hospitals for security reasons and help monitor service delivery.

The county chief officer for preventive and promotive health Joyce Sang said this will enable tracking the time a patient stays in the facility, the use of drugs and other staff operations.

The county will also instal screens in the patients' wards for privacy during treatment.

“We will take all the necessary measures to ensure that our hospitals are safe and also improve service delivery,” Sang said.

She spoke when she visited Ziwa subcounty hospital and Kabobo health centre in Ziwa ward to assess the conditions of the facilities.

She said her department was working on strategies to ensure that residents access adequate medical care.

Sang called on communities to ensure they respect ethical requirements while in hospitals.

"Let's sensitise our women to visit the hospital and make use of mammogram machine which is offered at a subsidized fee at Ziwa hospital among other health facilities," she said.

Ziwa subcounty hospital chairman Joseph Mwogoi said the facility conducts over 60 lab tests daily and offers inpatient services, ultrasound, cancer screening, maternity services, dental and renal services.

Mwogoi said the ongoing construction of the level V hospital facility is over 60 per cent complete.

He said that once it's completed it would have a capacity of 400 beds, a morgue, seven theatres, and a worship area.

The hospital manager Philip Koro encouraged patients to know their rights and enquire about the services they seek according to the service charter.

He said the dental unit at the facility offers scaling, refilling and root canal services.

The leaders also encouraged the residents to enrol and utilize NHIF to access medication even when they have no money.
