Two people were on Wednesday arrested at the Ministry of Health for allegedly impersonating Health CS Susan Wafula with the aim of conning unsuspecting Kenyans.

The two, a man and a woman, were arrested at Afya House in an operation by the police after it was alleged they were using the name of the CS to prey on Kenyans seeking opportunities and services at the ministry.

A statement from the ministry through their social media pages said the two were arrested after a ‘successfully executed a meticulously planned sting operation.’

“The police orchestrated an operation that strategically lured the suspects to a predetermined location, ensuring their swift arrest,” the statement said.

Cases of individuals impersonating senior government officials have been on the rise in the country.

Some of the key public figures that have been impersonated include DP Rigathi Gachagua, First Lady Rachel Ruto and ICT CS Eliud Owalo.

In December last year, a Nairobi court fined an artiste Sh50,000 or serve a seven-month jail term for impersonating Gachagua.

This was after Collins Kipleting, 22, pleaded guilty to creating a fake Facebook account.

He appeared before Milimani Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu.

The prosecution accused Kipleting of representing himself as Mr Rigathi Gachagua in November and December 6th with an intention to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Owalo on the other hand in January pardoned a man who was arrested for impersonating him on Facebook.

The CS's decision was arrived at, after the accused, Calvince Otieno Odhiambo, expressed profound remorse and sought forgiveness for running the parody account.
