Anglican Church of Kenya Provost of the All Saints' Cathedral Reverend Sammy Wainaina has bid farewell to the church after serving for 13 years.

Provost  Wainaina said goodbye to his congregants and fellow preachers of the church during a thanksgiving and farewell service that was held on Saturday at the All Saints Cathedral Church.

"As I go, I leave a cathedral that is a Bible-believing and Bible-preaching church. My prayer is that you maintain that. If you lose that in this cathedral, you will have lost the faith," the Provost said.

He added that he is also leaving behind a Cathedral that is well-managed.

"We have set policies and systems in place. Unless somebody wants to corrupt them, the Cathedral is in good hands in terms of leadership, policies and systems," he said.

Provost Wainaina bid his congregation farewell because he was moved to London to take the role of advisor on Anglican Communion Affairs.

He was the 12th Provost of the Cathedral serving since December 2013.

The Provost said the church gave him a place to influence the politics of the country.

"At the beginning, I was a fearful Provost. I did not know when I should talk about politics," he said.

But having noticed the cry of the people of God, he said the church could never be quiet.

He urged fellow preachers not to allow politicians to go to church to buy airtime at the pulpit to propagate their political agendas.

"The only definition of anybody who comes to church is a worshipper, your position in society notwithstanding," the Provost said.
