Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has alleged that the National Assembly is a rubber stamp as no one will vote against the Finance Bill 2023.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, the Senator said if the legislator resolved to the secret ballot during the voting of the bill, no MP would pass it.

"There is a problem now because President William Ruto had announced that he is waiting for MPs who will vote against the bill, by the look of things, it will pass. In fact, it will pass in five minutes," he said.

"It’s like slavery. National Assembly is now like a rubber stamp. The people of Kenya are upset."

Maanzo said that the people of Kenya are also keen on their MPs who will pass the bill, as they have fully analysed the bill and know it's not for their betterment.

"This is why we are supporting the Okiya Omatata's petition on the Finance Bill 2023, there are six points of illegalities, we also want Kenyans to watch and spot which members of parliament are betrayers," he added.

On Sunday the President said he is waiting to see the legislators who will oppose the Bill.

"I am waiting for the Members of Parliament who will go and vote against the employment of these young people, against housing that would give these people the chance to own a house with five per cent mortgage," he said on Sunday.

The Bill proposes, among others, that employees contribute three per cent towards the Housing Fund Levy.

This, Ruto said, is not a tax but a contribution and saving scheme towards the affordable housing project.

He also said the contribution is mandatory.
